Global Privacy Policy

Calbee, Inc. and its subsidiaries (collectively, “Calbee” or as “we”, “us” or “our”) have adopted the Global Privacy Policy for the protection of personal information described below (this “Policy”).
This Policy applies to personal information, personal data and other information relating to individuals (collectively, "Personal data") that is subject to protection under the applicable personal information protection laws and regulations in the country or region concerned.
We have established individual privacy policies ("Individual Policy") for Personal data in each country or region in order to comply with the personal information protection laws of that country or region.
Each Individual Policy supplements or modifies this policy and supersedes this policy.
However, multiple Individual Policies may apply for reasons that the countries or regions in which you and our group companies are located are different, for example.

1. Types of Personal data we collect

  • (1) The types of Personal data we obtain are as follows;
    1. Name, address, country or region of residence, occupation, title, gender, age, date of birth, product delivery address, telephone number, e-mail address, social networking service (SNS) account, work address, and other information regarding your contact information.
    2. User accounts, user IDs, and other information registered at the time of purchase of our products and services and at the time of registration with our members-only clubs.
    3. Information about your purchase history of products and services, information about products and services you have purchased or intend to purchase, and information about your use of products and services.
    4. Information provided by the individual in connection with various events conducted by or related to ours.
    5. Information provided by you in response to your comments, requests, or other inquiries
    6. Access information to our website, IP information, login information and other technical information
    7. Information provided by you in connection with your application for employment with our group
    8. Other information necessary to achieve the Purposes of Use set forth in Clause 3.
  • (2) We will not collect or use Personal data, except as permitted by applicable laws and regulations or with the consent of the individual concerned.

2. Method of collecting personal information

We collect personal information in the following ways, but not limited to:

  • (1) Receiving information directly from the person in person, in writing, by e-mail, on a website, through an inquiry form, or by other means;
  • (2) Receiving information from a third party to the extent permitted by applicable laws and regulations; or
  • (3) Automatically collecting information through cookies used on the Group's websites (see Clause 8 "About Cookies").

3. Purpose of use

We use your Personal data we collect, within the scope of the corresponding purpose of use below(“Purpose of Use”) or to the extent permitted by applicable laws and regulations.
However, if the purpose of use of your Personal data is otherwise specified for a particular product or service or each applicable Individual Policy, we use the personal information as specified:

4. Provision to third parties

We will provide your Personal data we process to any third parties only when permitted by applicable laws and regulations or only with the consent of the individual concerned.

5. Security measures

In accordance with applicable laws and regulations, we take necessary and appropriate measures to prevent leaks, loss, or corruption of Personal data we process and to secure other personal data.

6. Disclosure, correction, and deletion of Personal data

You have the right to disclose, correct, add, delete, or discontinue the use of your Personal data in our possession to the extent provided by applicable laws and regulations. If you wish to exercise any of these rights and make any kind of request, please follow the procedures set forth in each Individual Policy.

7. Personal data of children

We process the Personal data of child customers appropriately in accordance with applicable laws and regulations and the provisions of each Individual Policy.

8. Cookies

  • (1) Our website uses cookies. A cookie is a small text file that contains arbitrary characters. It is exchanged between the web server of a website you visit and your Internet browsing software (browser) and stored on your device. Cookies enable our website or our ad tech partners to deliver personalized advertisements by tracking you on the Internet or to share them on social media. Cookies identify your device and browser, but cannot by themselves identify you.

Individual Privacy Policy for Japan

Individual Privacy Policy for Japan ("Individual Policy for Japan") applies to the processing of your Personal data by the following companies in our group, and its application takes precedence over the Global Privacy Policy.

  2. Companies in our group located in Japan
  3. Companies in our group located outside of Japan that process the Personal data of a person located in Japan in connection with the provision of products and services to the person located in Japan

Unless otherwise stipulated, each provision of the following Individual Policy for Japan supplements or additionally applies to the same provisions of the Global Privacy Policy (this "Policy").
Unless otherwise specifically defined in Individual Policy for Japan, the terms used in Individual Policy for Japan shall have the meanings as defined in the Act on the Protection of Personal Information (the “APP”) or the Global Privacy Policy.

3. Purpose of use

We use your personal information we collect under the circumstances described below in the “Types of personal information” column, within the scope of the corresponding purpose of use (the “Purpose of Use”). However, if the purpose of use of your personal information is otherwise specified for a particular product or service, we use the personal information as specified. In addition, we obtain your prior consent before we use your personal information beyond the scope of the Purpose of Use unless otherwise permitted by the APP or any other applicable laws and regulations.

4. Provision to third parties

4.1. Provision to third parties

  • (1) We will not provide your Personal data we process to any third parties without your prior consent unless;

  • (2) Outsourcing
    We may outsource the processing of your Personal data to a third party to the extent necessary to achieve the Purpose of Use in order to provide you with better service. If we outsource the processing of your Personal data to a third party, we will first assess potential outsourcees in the selection process based on our pre-determined criteria. We will exercise appropriate oversight of the outsourcee that has been selected.

4.2. Provision to third parties located in foreign countries

We will not provide your Personal data we process to any third parties in countries or territories where the laws and regulations governing the protection of Personal data are different from those in the country or territory where you reside without your consent.
When we provide your Personal data to a third party in a foreign country with your consent, we will take appropriate measures to protect your Personal data in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

5. Security measures

We take necessary and appropriate measures to prevent leaks, loss, or corruption of Personal data we process and to secure other Personal data. The security measures we take include the following:

  • (1) Internal rules and regulations
    We have put rules in place that set out how Personal data should be processed at each data processing stage, including collection, use, provision, and disposal. Personal data officers have been appointed and their duties have been defined. We regularly review the rules.
  • (2) Organizational structure
    We have appointed a personal information protection manager who is responsible for supervising all aspects of the processing of Personal data at Calbee. We have a communication structure in place to allow an employee who becomes aware of a security breach to promptly contact the personal information protection manager and report the security breach.
  • (3) Regular inspections and audits
    We take measures to check how we process Personal data, which include regular self assessments and audits by other departments and an external auditor.
  • (4) Employee training
    We conduct regular training for our employees so they can learn about the protection of personal information and information security. We take measures to ensure that the employees are well aware of their confidentiality duty by including the confidentiality clause in our workplace rules.
  • (5) Management of electronic devices and electronic media etc.
    We take necessary measures to prevent theft or loss of electronic devices and electronic media which contain Personal data, and prevent Personal data leaks.
  • (6) Prevention of unauthorized access etc.
    We take measures to protect Personal data from unauthorized access by external parties, including the use of SSL (which stands for Secure Sockets Layer) to prevent customers' sensitive information, such as personal information and credit card numbers, from being intercepted, interrupted, or modified when the information is entered.
  • (7) Monitoring of external environment factors
    If we process Personal data in a foreign country, we have a structure in place to allow us to monitor the personal information protection regime of that country in a timely manner and take necessary action accordingly.

6. Disclosure, correction, and deletion of Personal data

  • (1) You may request that we disclose your Personal data retained by us, or our records of providing such Personal data to third parties, by following our procedures described below, except in the following circumstances:
    1. [1] The disclosure could harm your or any third party's life, physical wellbeing, property or other rights or interests;
    2. [2] The disclosure could have a significantly adverse impact on the proper execution of our business operations;
    3. [3] The disclosure would be in violation of law; or
    4. [4] We are unable to verify that you have made the disclosure request.

    Please note that if you request that we disclose your personal data retained by us, or our records of providing such personal data to third parties, you may be asked to pay a disclosure fee in accordance with our procedures.

  • (2) You may request that we correct, add, or delete your personal data retained by us by following our procedures described below, in which case we will, without delay, conduct an investigation to the extent necessary to achieve the Purpose of Use and we will correct, add, or delete your personal data retained by us based on the results of the investigation.
  • (3) You may request that we cease to use your personal data retained by us and cease to provide such personal data to third parties by following our procedures described below, in which case we will respond to your request in accordance with the APP.

    When you submit a request, you will need to attach either one identification document with a photograph or two identification documents without a photograph, together with the Request Form for Retained Personal Data Disclosure etc.:
