Calbee Group’s Unique Value Chain: The 10 Processes
The Calbee Group has created a unique value chain that starts from the development of natural ingredients as raw materials and consistently delivers high-quality products.

Calbee Group 3 Core Strengths
Since its founding in 1949, the Calbee Group has delivered great taste and fun by creating products that make the most of nature’s gifts and by developing its three core strengths.
1Expertise in Potatoes

Potatoes are the main ingredient in many of our signature products, including Potato Chips and JagaRico. To ensure consistent quality, we have developed a fully integrated value chain, starting with the development and cultivation of new potato varieties and extending through production, distribution, and retail. Though this process, we have deep expertise in raw-material development and sourcing, including proprietary potato varieties created specifically for products like Potato Chips. And as a result, we are also able to provide our contract growers with consulting and technical support, including in seed development, farm cultivation, and harvesting.

2Product Planning and Development In Response to Evolving Needs

From our first hit product, Kappa Arare, to seafood-based snacks like Kappa Ebisen (Shrimp Chips) and snacks that come in convenient cup packaging such as JagaRico, we have continued to create new value by developing products that respond to social trends and evolving consumer preferences. We will continue to focus on planning and developing new products that meet emerging needs.
3Processing Techniques That Bring Out the Best in Natural Ingredients

We use processing techniques that appeal to all five senses (appearance, flavor, aroma, texture, and more) along with processing and seasoning techniques that enable a wide variety of products. In addition, our processing methods are tailored to natural ingredients that differ by season and variety. Through these techniques, we strive to create products that make the most of nature’s gifts.
