Contribution to healthy lifestyles
Looking at the business environment surrounding the Calbee Group, in Japan, we are seeing diversifying lifestyles and eating habits among our customers due to changes in the social structure, including a declining population resulting from the country’s low birthrate and an aging society, an increasing number of single-person households, the advancement of digital technology, and increased health awareness.
The Calbee Group will support the diversifying needs and lifestyles of our customers by providing products that harness the power of natural ingredients.
Main initiatives
Provision of health-conscious products
Salt intake-related initiatives
As dietary habits diversify, Calbee is focusing on salt as a nutrient that should be properly controlled for sustaining a healthy lifestyle. In a joint effort among multiple departments, including product planning and manufacturing technology development, we review the optimal salt content of products and promote product development that highlights the natural flavors of the ingredients.
According to a Calbee survey, an estimated 45.22 million people*1 are concerned about the salt content of food in general. We have received feedback from customers, such as “I want products that do not use any seasoning” and “I feel more comfortable giving salt-free products to my children.”
Against this backdrop, we released the Salt-Free Snack Series in limited quantities in February 2025, leveraging the natural deliciousness of ingredients without added salt. Jagabee Plain is sold as a regular product. Additionally, we offer year-round products, including Kappa Ebisen 35% Less Salt and Kappa Ebisen from 1 Year Old.
