Contribute to healthy and diverse lifestyles

Providing new values in response to diversifying consumer needs

We build stronger bonds with stakeholders by providing sustainable value in the products we make, and food communication activities in which we share the enjoyment of food, accurate food-related knowledge, and the importance of a sound natural environment.

Main initiatives

Provision of value through sustainable products

There is growing awareness and demand for products that show due consideration to social issues such as the environment and human rights. To communicate our initiatives that do just that to customers, the Calbee Group displays environmental labels such as the RSPO Label*1 and Biomass Mark*2 on the product packaging, and the Forest certification mark on certified cardboard and paper packaging.

  • *1 The RSPO Label is an eco label that is granted to products that have acquired a Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil supply chain certificate and are allowed to use it in accordance with stated regulations. It indicates that the product contributes to sustainable palm oil production.
  • *2 The Biomass Mark is a mark of environmental products that use biomass and comply with laws, standards, and specifications related to quality and safety. (Japan Organics Recycling Association)

Expansion of food communications

Food communication refers to factory tours and food education activities, including Calbee Snack School and Asa-Hello-Shiyo! School (Let's make your own morning). Based on the concept of “Joyously creating a future of food that brings excitement to everyone alive; Let’s get excited!” we will be helping customers of all generations to live healthily.

Food education programs (Calbee Snack School/Asa-Hello-Shiyo! School/SDGs learning program)

We started Calbee Snack School in 2003 under the theme of “smarter snacking,” and Asa-Hello-Shiyo! School in 2020 with the theme of “creating your own morning.” Since April 2023, we have participated in a SDGs learning program for students on school excursions at the Sheraton Grande Tokyo Bay Hotel as an opportunity for both the children and us to learn from each other because children will be responsible for shouldering the next generation.

Factory tours

As an important place for communication with stakeholders, tours are offered at our Hokkaido Factory, Kiyohara Factory, and Hiroshima Factory. Although tours were offered online to help defend against the spread of COVID-19, we happily have restarted welcoming visitors to our factories in May 2023. Tours are currently offered both in person and online.

Snacks Contest

Since 2011, Calbee has been organizing the Snacks Contest to gather new product ideas from children with the goal of teaching them the fun of development and manufacturing. The theme of the 12th contest (fiscal year ended March 31, 2023) was “Snacks that turn food you don’t like into your favorite.” The top two winning entries from the 818 that were submitted were recreated by R&D staff, and an awards ceremony and tasting party were held.
